It’s almost springtime, and that means DC’s budget season is in full swing! This is the most important time to show up for affordable housing–if we don’t keep our priorities in front of Councilmembers, important programs that Washingtonians depend on could easily go underfunded or disappear altogether. Here are some events to get on your calendar!
Rally for Racial Equity, Housing, and Jobs
When: Saturday March 17th, 10am to noon
Where: Savoy Elementary Gym (2400 Shannon Pl SE)
From the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development:
This is one of CNHED’s and the Housing For All Campaign’s biggest annual events of the year!
Each year our rally draws hundreds of District residents and advocates together to demonstrate our commitment to bettering the lives of all District residents. For low to moderate- income residents, that means access to jobs as part of a robust workforce, clean and decent housing they can afford, all while building racial equity. We must continue working to ensure unprecedented investments in programs that build and preserve affordable homes, end chronic homelessness, create new opportunities for home ownership, train and recruit a strong workforce, and create jobs that lead to careers.
Current and future homeowners, come join MANNA, LEDC, CNHED, and our Housing Advocacy Team from 1:00-4:00 Saturday afternoon as we offer our annual Homeownership Town Hall! The first and last hour of the program will consist of resource tables and workshops on a variety of subjects including:
-Legal estate planning
-DC property tax programs
This year we’re placing a special focus on the importance of the Home Purchase Assistance Program, DC’s down payment assistance for first time buyers. Help us tell the Council to #FundHPAP and #InvestInUs!
Childcare and Spanish translation services provided! We invite lenders, affordable housing developers like MANNA, and others to serve as exhibitors. Please contact Josh Galvez at email@example.com if interested in this or in serving as a volunteer.
Email Jonathan Nisly (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like updates on this event.
CNHED’s annual Advocacy Day is a chance for YOU to come and speak directly to Councilmembers about what needs to change in DC and why affordable housing is worth the investment.
OK, this one is just for fun. Come join MANNA for our 20th Annual 5K! Whether you’re in it to win it or out for a morning stroll, this event is a great time for a great cause.
